Hinge vs Tinder vs Bumble: Which Dating App Should Men Use?
Updated: 4 days ago
In my opinion, Hinge is the best dating app for men if it's popular where you live, especially in the UK, the US and London. It's more personal, every like you send is seen, and the quality of people tends to be higher. Where Hinge isn't big, Tinder is often the only widely used option.
Whichever app you choose, you still need a great profile.
Just to be clear: none of these apps has paid me. This is simply my opinion.
Tinder and Bumble
In many places, Tinder is still essentially the only widely used dating app, with Bumble usually second. Tinder is generally seen as more casual, while Bumble leans more towards relationships.
On Bumble the woman has to start the conversation. That can mean fewer flaky matches, because she has to be genuinely interested, but you'll probably get fewer matches overall.
Why Hinge is the best dating app for men
It's more personal. You fill in prompts and answers, so there's more to talk about.
There's no swiping. You like a specific photo or prompt and can add a comment, which doubles as your opener.
The quality of people seems higher than on Tinder, at least in London, where it's the most popular dating app.
Every like you send is visible to her, even before you match.
Why visible likes matter so much
For men, dating apps are often a numbers game. On most apps, swiping a lot can push your profile down the stack so many attractive women never see it, and she only finds out you liked her if she matches with you. On Hinge, every like is instantly visible, so you effectively bypass that. Many attractive women hardly swipe on Hinge at all; they go straight to the people who have already liked them.
Is Hinge's paid membership worth it?
I'd get it for at least a month. You get unlimited likes (when I made the video, free accounts were limited to eight a day), and you may start seeing better-quality profiles you weren't shown before. The first day or two can be underwhelming, but after a few days you'll start seeing very attractive women, usually the prettiest first.
Numbers game or selective likes?
Liking lots of profiles brings lots of matches, and it can get addictive, so be careful. Being more selective and commenting on a photo or prompt means fewer matches but easier conversations. Either way, your photos matter most. Start with the 6 photos every man needs on his dating profile.
